RAN LIVE @ JJF 2008, Now on DVD!

Let’s flashback to 8 March 2008; that evening thousands of tweens and teens filled the space of Exhibition Hall B of Jakarta Convention Center, in Senayan, South Jakarta to catch the spectacular performance of RAN on the spectacular stage of Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2008. Since it was formed in 2006, comprising of Rayi (Rap/Vocals), Asta (guitars) and Nino (vocals), RAN has been hailing an R&B and jazz embellished pop image.

The major opportunity to extend the group’s wings in the horizon of Indonesian music was seriously prepared. An extraordinary concept which featured the antics of DJ Cream and supported by additional players such as Abe (percussions & synthesizer), Rama (drums), Rendi (bass), Nina (keyboard) and Raisa (backing vocals), the group rocked the stage with singles from debut album ‘RAN For Your Life’. The sound of the music was further perfected with the presence of brass section featuring talented jazz musicians, Indra Aziz on sax and Teguh on trumpet.

Shouts and screams of excitement from RAN’s fans filled the air when the screen was opened. DJ Cream commenced the performance with single ‘Warna Warni Dunia’, an act which drove the audience into adrenaline frenzy. “Our anxiety quickly melted and was replaced by over joy when we saw how enthusiastic the audience was,” Rayi shared. The group’s energetic performance motivated the audience to sing along to the ear-catchy songs. ‘Pandangan Pertama’, the group’s first breakthrough single, was the most well-received song. Rayi, who usually raps, sang a solo of chillin’-beat-styled single ‘D’inspiration’. The lighting and sound system on that day was far from dysfunctional. It is no wonder that the band had a very successful performance.

The memory of that evening’s performance (in addition to reception from the audience) peaked Java Jazz Festival’s interest to release a DVD of the show for RANers. “Performing on the stage of Java Jazz Festival has been our dream. We were 200% excited, that’s why the show’s concept was made as it is”, Nino said. “Hopefully, RANers who weren’t lucky enough to see us perform can feel the euphoria of the show though the DVD. For those of you who did catch out performance, please continue to support us,” added Asta.

As it is a first time local artist release for Universal Music Indonesia, the label implemented a strategy to distribute the DVD to the market. The first release to be launched on 15 December 2008, will be focused on RANers. Two thousand copies of the exclusive limited edition DVD, T-shirt, stickers and signature from RAN, will only be available through Java Jazz Festival’s official site (www.javajazzfestival.com) and RAN’s official management (Millionaire’s Club – Jl. Pinang Kuningan I Blok UL No.14 Pondok Indah Jakarta Selatan, Phone 021.7694588). In early January 2009, Universal Music Indonesia will release the DVD to various music stores.

The DVD release also marks the moment that RAN launches single ‘Selamat Pagi’, a reggae-inspired track. The video clip of the group’s third single, directed by Pattrick Effendy, will also be viewable in various private television stations. For your information, although the Indonesian music industry is not exactly vibrant, the sales of RAN’s CD have hit the 30,000-copy mark whilst 300,000 of its RBT were sold. RAN has certainly established itself as a fresh, energetic and worthy of DVD documentation artists, a treat for Indonesia’s music lovers.
