PREP originally came about as a placeholder alias for 4 London based-artists with an eye-watering list of credits under their belts. Keyboard player Llywelyn Ap Myrddin- a classical composer with a predilection for electronic music, began working up instrumentals with drummer / House music producer Guillaume Jambel (aka GIOM). Llywelyn was completely thrown by the response to some of these tracks from Grammy-nominated producer Dan Radclyffe, noted for his work on recordings by the likes of Drake and Chronixx. Sensing the foundations of a shared musical DNA, the three began to dedicate serious hours to the new joint venture.
The line-up was quickly solidified by singer Tom Havelock, friendly with Radclyffe from co-writing on numerous projects including Riton, Sinead Hartnett and Ray BLK. Havelock’s effortless top line completed debut track ‘Cheapest Flight’ in their very first day in the studio.
Their debut EP 'Futures' generated 4 Hype Machine hits, an AlunaGeorge remix and radio plays across Radio, 1Xtra and Beats 1, with over 7 million streams online. As a result PREP came onboard to remix the Snakehips smash ‘All My Friends (feat. Chance The Rapper and Tinashe)'.
2019 sees the band with three EPs in their discography: 'Cold Fire' and 'Line by Line' featuring guests as diverse as Korean RnB superstar DEAN and the guitarist Cory Wong (Vulfpeck). This summer they embark on their first European tour and international festivals including Summersonic Japan.
