Biography

The Galaxy Big Band Jazz Orchestra was established in 1992 by Japanese, as an amateur Jazz band in Jakarta. There are current members of around 19, and most of us are Japanese expats in Jakarta (off course we have Indonesian member too). We work on weekdays and practice together during weekends for passion and refreshment. We play various kinds of big band tunes, especially traditional swing numbers such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington Orchestra's or Latin numbers. Thankfully, we have been given many opportunities to play jazz music at events. As the our latest activities that we attended as follows; Performed at Java Jazz Festival 2024 in May 2024, Performed at Natsu Matsuri at TMII in July 2024, Performed at Sakura Matsuri at Cikarang in July 2024, Performed at Ubud Village Jazz Festival at Bali in August 2024, Performed at Motion Blue Jakarta with Mercy Dumais in August 2024, Performed at Jakarta Japan Matsuri at GBK in September 2024, Performed at Jazz Goes To Campus at UI in November 2024, Performed at Dock of Tuna Kemang at Desember 2024, Performed at Motion Blue Jakarta with Mercy Dumais in Desember 2024, Performed at Motion Blue Jakarta with Mercy Dumais in March 2025 Etc. In our history, we faced some of difficult situations because of a shortage in members. When it comes to the band just like us doing activities outside of Japan, iit might be happened to break up team once we stop our activities. However, we overcame this matter each time by new member gathering, our strong teamwork and the passion to play.
