Biography
Mentari Novel is a female singer-songwriter from Indonesia, who was born on March 14, 1993, in the town of Sukabumi, West Java. Her father, Novel, was a renowned rock and roll vocalist in the 1960s, known for his collaborations with the band The Rythmn Boys in Singapore and Malaysia. Mentari Novel's upbringing took place in Sukabumi, where her father nurtured her talent as a singer from a young age. With her father's encouragement, she began her childhood career as a singer in the small town where she was raised. In 2011, she traveled to Jakarta to enroll in Universitas Indonesia, a prominent institution located in a bustling metropolis that was the hub of various industries, including the music sector. Despite her academic pursuits, she didn't abandon her passion for music. In 2016, her father passed away, leaving her feeling lost in many aspects of her life, including her music career. Nevertheless, she continued to pursue her dreams, putting in a lot of effort to keep working on her music. She auditioned for record companies, sent out demos, appeared on a television show called "Social Media Sensations" as a singer, collaborated with renowned Indonesian music producer Eka Gustiwana from "Weird Genius," and released two singles, "Entah Sampai Kapan" and "Talk To Me," the latter of which she produced herself using her own savings. In late 2019, Mentari met her now-husband, Andika Deva, who was then a session guitar player for a male soloist named Pamungkas. They frequently discussed their aspirations, with Andika harboring a longtime desire to become a music producer. Despite having worked in a recording studio before, he had yet to realize his dream. However, Mentari encouraged him to pursue his ambition now or never, and he ultimately decided to become her music producer. They began collaborating on the recording process of Mentari's single, "Pelabuhanku," and subsequently agreed to work together on an album titled "That Girl," set for release in mid-2024.
